Spotify song thumbnail 

I did this project during my Motion design studies at Hyper Island. The task was given to us by our industry leaders Bee Grandinetti and Claudio Salas. The goal was to create an abstract Spotify thumbnail for a song of our choice. I chose “Cumbia Sobre El Mar”. A beautiful Spanish song with a lot of energy and happiness.

I listened to the song dozens of times, thinking about the feelings, shapes and colors that come to one’s mind while listening to this song. Then I wrote down those adjectives and create a mood board and a color palette.

To get an abstract result I used simplified forms. Using triangles to resemble sun shines around a “maraca”.

The challenge was to get the tempo of the song just right in the movements. After an hour of playing around with the keyframes, the mission was accomplished.
